Old-Fashioned Spring Cleaning
Spring cleaning is the old-fashioned, once-a-year, my-grandmother-used-to-do-it, type of cleaning. It can be for any room or for the rooms that receive the most use. 

Spring-cleaning a room is labor-intensive because everything in the room is handled and paid attention to. A partial list would include washing ceilings, light fixtures, walls, woodwork, baseboards, doors, wood paneling, and floors. All pieces of furniture, with a few exceptions, are moved, vacuumed, and cleaned around. Pictures are cleaned, draperies are vacuumed, and blinds washed. Depending on the type of floor, it may be stripped and waxed.

Maintenance Housekeeping
Maintenance Housekeeping appointments are usually whole, thorough house cleanings on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly (for the single retired) basis. This type of service involves removing the soil, which has occurred since the last visit. It also includes dusting baseboards, molding, ceiling fans, etc.

Maintenance cleanings are thorough, but do not include removing "old soil" sometimes that has built up over a long period of time. It is thorough in that we work from 'top to bottom' in a room, eliminating cobwebs and dust that can be recovered with a dust cloth. We move light furniture as needed, especially chairs, tables, and such, which are used frequently. We go behind and under items that can be moved by one person. On the second or third visit, we recover even more, such as edging a carpet with our special vacuum.

The first Maintenance Housekeeping visits are a process by which a home is eventually 'brought up to' our high standards and then maintained that way.

Kitchen Maintenance
Maintenance Housekeeping in the wet areas. Top to bottom, all corners and edging is done on carpeted and non-carpeted floors. Everything is moved on the counter, cleaned behind it, the items cleaned and moved back.

Not only are sinks made to shine, but also all the tight spaces that trap dirt are cleaned. The outsides, top to bottom, of all large appliances in the kitchen are cleaned. Light fixtures are dusted; windowsills, baseboards, and other dusting in the kitchen are done.

Kitchen cabinets are cleaned for fingerprints and food spills that have occurred recently and can be recovered with wiping a wet or damp cloth. The floor is edged for crumbs with a vacuum, then vacuumed thoroughly and washed. Food that is stuck to a floor is not ignored. On an as-need-basis, the floor is washed by hand around the edges.

Bathroom Maintenance
In your bathroom: We clean and disinfect showers, tubs, toilets, and sinks. We clean mirrors and the shower door tracts. We remove most vanity items and clean your counter areas. We clean the tops of vanity items and replace them.  We clean your bathroom cabinets, floors, and baseboards. The challenge in the bathroom is the hard water in combination with high humidity.  We clean and disinfect all fixtures and treat any mildew.  

After years of experience cleaning countless bathrooms, including a bed and breakfast we cleaned weekly which had ten bathrooms, we have tried countless products, we know what works in eliminating hard water stains, the most difficult challenge for the homeowner.

A note about showers: Very often, the caulking in showers and tubs needs replacing either because it is missing or it is full of mold. If caulking is missing, water can be creating damage that can't be seen from the outside. If caulking is black from mold, a shower never looks clean and brings your energy down without you being aware of it. We can help you decide the right approach to dealing with this problem and offer advise on ways to stop its progression.

Deep Cleaning
Another Housekeeping Service offered is what we call 'Deep Cleaning.' It is most appropriate for rooms that are heavily used, such as kitchens, family rooms, master bedrooms, and bathrooms. If these rooms have not been thoroughly cleaned in some time, there is little point in cleaning just the top layer over and over when Deep Cleaning is needed.

While Maintenance Housekeeping involves spraying and wiping and some light scrubbing, Deep Cleaning involves mostly scrubbing, rinsing, and drying. Also, a heavier duty cleaner is needed. In the dry work, it involves moving more furniture, and even more attention to hidden dirt.

We usually find that rooms need this level of service approximately every six months.

Master Bedrooms
Across the board, most master bedrooms are the most dusty of rooms in the house. They can also be the most cluttered or overloaded ones. Spring cleaning and streamlining your bedroom is honoring yourself and your spouse because this is your most personal space. The goal of a spring cleaning is to remove 99.9 percent of visible and hidden dust. All washable surfaces are treated, which removes even more dust and stuck-on residue. All fabric items are vacuumed and fabric window treatments are washed, dry-cleaned or vacuumed. Carpets are edged and professionally cleaned.

Special Projects

Gel Glossing Bathrooms
Over time, minerals in water and ingredients in soap can age tile, fiberglass and acrylic surfaces. Gel gloss is a liquid cream that is excellent at keeping surfaces glossy with a high luster. It leaves shower walls, sinks and counters with a satin smooth feel and seals them from water spotting and stains. 

The procedure revitalizes fiberglass shower surfaces, bringing them back to almost new. The shower walls are thoroughly deep cleaned, which means the hard water stains are removed from the shower walls. Then the gel gloss wax is applied three times and buffed. This allows water and soap to bead off of the shower walls instead of adhering to them. The gel gloss treatment also removes hard water stains from fixtures and prevents new ones from forming, because there's nothing more frustrating after cleaning a bathroom than fixtures that still have spots.

Beeswax Treatment on Furniture/Cabinets
Beeswax to wood furniture and cabinets is like good nutrition to your body. It is natural and it feeds, preserves and protects furniture and natural woods, especially oak. This treatment is for fine antique furniture and premium kitchen cabinets because in our experience, fine woods need to be cared for on a regular basis. The most critical issue for fine woods is they tend to dry out from excessive moisture and direct sunlight. We have found that an application of beeswax two to three times a year will reverse the cracking because it feeds the wood and leaves a protective covering against further damage. Clients rave about the beeswax treatment because it makes cabinets glisten and leaves them with a nice patina, a satin touch, a non-oily surface and a fragrance that is wonderful.

Decks, Garages, Guttering
These projects are usually done in early spring and it is very important that they be done properly. As a rule, if gutters are not cleaned out, it will have an effect on the foundation and lead to leakages in the home. Also, since decks and garages tend to be high-traffic areas, it is important to keep then clean so dirt is not being tracked in and throughout the house.

Organizing and de-cluttering does not necessarily mean throwing out loads of possessions, it means getting control of possessions that are "on the loose" around your home. It means having designated places for things and being able to retrieve and put back any item you need in a timely, satisfying fashion.

For a home to contribute to good mental health, be a space to relax and be a frustration-free zone, it's important that our living spaces be decluttered and organized. Every place should have a thing and every thing should have its place. Very frequently we're told by clients that once their home is de-cluttered and organized, they can breathe a lot easier at home and not have little frustrations of not knowing where things are.

Feng Shui Consultations
As professional housekeepers, we are quite attuned and sensitive to the energy in a home. Our experience has taught us the importance of proper applications of basic Feng Shui principles. The most important one includes RE-ENERGIZING THE HOME. When we finish our housekeeping appointment, you should be able to walk into your home with your eyes closed and feel a difference in the home. In our consultation, a number of suggestions will be offered that will help make your home feel balanced, invigorating, restful and comfortable for your family as well as guests. We are especially mindful to apply these principles to clients preparing their homes to sell and have we have been very successful in helping them do just that.

Exterior
Your home is a reflection of yourself, therefore it helps to make sure the exterior of it is something you can be proud of. Try to maintain the outside of your home so that it makes a good impression whenever you or anyone else enters. This will also make a difference if you want to sell your home. One important way to address this area is to fix any dampness due to poor guttering, deteriorating exterior surfaces or blocked drainage, as this will cause rotting and dampness inside your home. Another way is by keeping a wide, clear path to your front door. This brings more energy to your home.

Interior
When you have lived in a home for some time, it is easy to lose your objectivity. The interior style gradually forms piece by piece, and over time, you can often over-furnish and clutter your home. In addition, when people move into a home, they are often inspired to put a lot of energy into ambitious projects. Inevitably, this enthusiasm wanes, and projects remain unfinished.

We are good at casting a critical eye over someone else's home on our first visit, and occasionally, it can be helpful to do this in your own home. If you want an objective point of view, we are trained in the art of Feng Shui. Applying just a few principles can bring fresh energy, balance and harmony in ways you might not be aware of.

Cleaning walls, woodwork and doors
These are some of the most neglected areas of the home and coincidently the surfaces that accumulate the most build-up from dirty hands and cooking residue. Washing these areas gives a home a fresh "face-lift". We have a safe, but effective, cleanser meant for these areas that you might not have the time or inclination to tackle.
